Knee pain

The most common causes of knee pain are repeated stress on the knee caused from your knee alignment, an injury or ageing. Common knee problems include sprained or strained ligaments, cartilage tears, tendonitis and arthritis. Medical conditions, including: arthritis, gout and infections also can cause knee pain

Symptoms of knee pain

The main symptoms of knee pain include:

  • Generally the inability to fully straighten the knee, a crunching noise in the knee, can be warm to the touch, swelling and stiffness.

What causes knee pain?

  • Knee misalignment issues between your leg and hip.
  • Weak thigh muscles can also be part of the problem.
  • Bursitis: inflammation caused by repeated overuse or injury of the knee.
  • Chondromalacia patella: damaged cartilage under the kneecap
  • Gout: arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid.

Treatment and prevention of knee pain

  • If you suffer from arthritis or gout, walking and other exercise helps mobilize your joint fluid and lubricate the joints.
  • You should walk and do other exercises that move your knee joints.
  • You are likely to find that the stiffness, pain, and fatigue improve with exercise.
