Run an Empire encourages participants to scout for new territory by exploring new areas, invade other’s territory in hopes of gaining new land, and defending your own borders against incursions. The maps light up in different colours, depending on the status of the land. It gives an indication of how well defended your territory is, and how difficult it may be to invade a nearby fiefdom. The social aspect combined with a friendly, yet competitive atmosphere makes this a real lark to play.
The app rewards effort over speed, which makes it accessible to runners and walkers of all ability levels. Privacy is also well-protected as territory segments are large and route markers like start and finish points are not identified.
The app is easy to use, letting you focus on getting your run complete while having a bit of fun in the process. If you want to dig in, you’ll find fun customisation options, like designing your own personal coat of arms.
Run an Empire is currently available for download on iPhone through the App Store. The development team have flagged an Android release for the future but have been hazy on dates so far.
