The best base layers for Spring and Summer running

2018-04-25

Warmer weather is finally on it’s way and it’s time to start thinking about summer base layers to add to your running kit. You might think less is more when it comes to layering in warmer weather, but the truth is that high quality, high tech summer base layers can help you to stay cool over even long-distance runs. If you head out of the house in little more than shorts and a cotton singlet, you’ll soon find yourself hot, sweaty, chafed and sun burned. You can avoid all of these discomforts by choosing the right base layers. They can be worn on their own, or underneath lighter race day singlets, shorts or skirts for comfort and increased performance.

Base layer tops

Choose a summer base layer top like the Enertor Energy Baselayer Top to support your warm weather runs. The Nilit Innergy yarn helps to extend muscular elasticity and may increase your anaerobic capacity. UV support helps to protect the skin from sun damage and moisture-wicking properties help to reduce chafing and support the body’s natural cooling processes. A versatile summer base layer top like this can be worn under a tank or on its own. Its durability will make it a useful investment that extends the life of the top into winter use.

Base layer shorts

No-one likes chafing, and there is nothing as uncomfortable as giving yourself a rash on the legs from a combination of unprotected skin and warm weather. While anti-chafing lotions are available, it may be far more comfortable and convenient to wear a smart pair of Enertor Energy Baselayer Shorts. The fabric fits snugly and provides plenty of support for all body types. In particular, the wide waistband provides a close fit without discomfort or skin irritation over long distances. The length alleviates chafing concerns and the ventilation panels help to maintain a cool and dry environment. Like the top, these summer base layers are equally useful in cooler months as part of a layered approach.

10 years and a new start
It’s been a long holiday from exercise and a tough, if determined return. Adding Enetor insoles into the mix 3-weeks in has actually made a pleasurable difference, just when I’d begun to wonder if the effort was worth it. Def. a base part of my new kit.

After having some injury scares early season I felt that my insoles gave me the extra support that helped prevent injury so when the time came I was ready as ever. Now that I have won English schools and going to compete for England next week I can genuinely say the insole support I got was so helpful in training, and in races.

    The real deal!
I have been using these insole for just over a month and the difference they have made is incredible. I no longer have knee or ankle pain when running and feel much more stable. They took a little while to get used to but I cannot imagine running without them now. Amazing product.

High quality, but obviously limited in that they are not bespoke
Happy with the product to go in casual shoes. The heel raise and the arch support are decent. I had to cut around the edge of the main foot part so it fit in my shoes – but that may be just because of my narrow shoes. Easily fixed anyway. They won’t give you any extra athletic performance, but may help take stress off the achilles for anyone who has achilles pain. Good quality. Well made. Feel comfortable to wear.

    Impressed
I’ve never bought specialist insoles before but have been really impressed with these. Very comfortable to wear and because of the support on the heel and middle of the foot, it pushes me to run on the front of my feet. Consequently my Moov app shows I’m making less ‘impact’ when I run, which can only be good for my knees! Would recommend!

    My back no longer hurts
Last year I suffered a herniated disk in my lower back, causing extreme nerve pain all the way down my left leg. I just got back into running this spring, and started with the insoles around the same time, and the pain has almost completely subsided. I can run further without pain than I’ve been able to since the injury. Definitely recommend these for comfort and support.

    These Really Helped
I often get blisters on my arches because running shoes try to cushion too much… These insoles were great because they lift your heel a bit higher, and the arch falls away a bit closer to the heel so there’s less rubbing. I’m only a beginner runner – training for a 5 mile run, but so far these have really helped to keep my energy up, reduce blisters and keep a spring in my step!

    More comfort – less pain
I have a high instep and play a lot of golf. When walking for 18 holes my feet were often quite painful by the end of the round. I now use these insoles in my golf shoes and it has definitely improved – I realised yesterday how much when I played on an old pair of shoes which didn’t have these insoles in and I was in much more pain by the end.
