A revolutionary way to breathe can help you run better and sidestep injury

Have you wondered how to take your running to the next level? Trying out revolutionary running breathing techniques could help. Changing the way you breathe while running might seem like a minor tweak, but it can really make an impact on your training. Here’s how.

How can breathing impact your injury rates?

Most people use 2-2 running breathing techniques. This means they breathe in over 2 strides and out over 2 strides. This causes the exhalation to always coincide with the foot strike of one foot. When you breathe out, your chest muscles expand into their weakest position. When this expansion coincides with the force of impact of striding, you can leave your core relatively unsupported. When this happens repeatedly over time, you may develop an injury on one side of your body.

How can you change your breathing pattern to reduce injury?

If you implement a running breathing technique that alternates your exhalation as opposite feet strike the ground, you distribute the unsupported force evenly across both sides of the body. This reduces the uneven demands on just one set of joints. It’s a good idea to practice this before taking it out on the road to get your head around it.

Lie on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat. Breathe deeply from your diaphragm rather than your upper chest. Breathe in for a count of 3, then out for 2. Your inhale will be one count longer than your exhale. When you are comfortable with this, you can tap your feet on the floor in time. You’ll notice that your exhalation will alternate between each foot.

Trial the 3:2 breathing pattern on your next easy run and see how it feels. If you want to do speed work or want to run hills, you might need to change your breathing pattern to the faster cadence of 2:1, in order to give your body more oxygen to meet the demand. This shortened cadence will still maintain the alternate foot strike distribution.

It may take some getting used to, but you may notice a reduction in injury rates overall.

    Great Insoles
These make me run as fast as Usain!

    Good support
What I like about these is that they are less bulky than typical insoles. They don’t add much weight or require a ton of adjustment. I have been moving these around from shoe to shoe depending on the activity. They don’t work with my soccer cleats which is a bummer but I have run, cycled, and walked in these and they have been helping with foot fatigue. No change in the heel pain I have had for the last year but I have only used them for a few weeks so I am hopeful for the future.

    Amazing difference
I have been using these insoles to train and race in and they make a remarkable difference I can feel the extra support given by them to my heal and my arch. As a young runner I have had issues with the pressure on my feet becoming painful and by using these insoles it has helped tremendously and I have been running faster times. I would definitely recommend these.

    For Athletes
These are a good quality, comfortable insole that gives really good support and cushioning. My only gripe is that it does make the shoe feel heavy, though this isn’t any different to the others I have tried.

    Very comfy
Found these very comfy and cushioned but did slightly supinate my feet. On one leg this felt fine on other it took a bit of getting use to. I used these at the end of an Olympic triathlon where the 10k run was very tough and the comfort was noted. Only problem being with the thickness of the insole, when I ran without socks this lifted my heel up in shoe and gave me a blister where I can normally run in my triathlon trainers without socks. I’d only use these for longer triathlons where I would definitely be wearing socks.

    Stable support and shock absorption
I used Enertor insoles as a replacement in my football boots following an impact ankle injury, and have seen an improvement in post activity pain. They provide firm support and comfort, and fit very well. I would definitely recommend these having tried them.

I’ve been dealing with Plantar Fasciitis for years and these insoles are incredible. I was starting to have a flare up again but since I’ve put these in my shoes, it has subsided. I run about 30-35 miles a week and they’ve held up really, really well!

The Insoles are very comfortable they also provide extra protection and bounce, I certainly felt the difference in my spikes and training trainers.

10 years and a new start
It’s been a long holiday from exercise and a tough, if determined return. Adding Enetor insoles into the mix 3-weeks in has actually made a pleasurable difference, just when I’d begun to wonder if the effort was worth it. Def. a base part of my new kit.

These are absolutely fantastic!! I have suffered badly with shin splints for a number of years and I have finally found insoles that help with the pain and decrease the amount I suffer from them! Would recommend these to anyone!
