Tempted to try lunch break running?

Sometimes the morning can get hectic and there’s no time to squeeze in a run before you leave for work.

If that’s the case you can always get some ground covered during your lunch break. It’s not as hard as it sounds.

Plan, plan, plan

Map out your run the day before, so you know where you’re headed. Maybe meet up with a friend so you can motivate each other (agree on a meeting place so you don’t waste time trying to spot each other across a park).

Pack your running gear up the night before so you can grab it and go – and leave it by the front door. Keep your hairstyle simple and wear your running socks into the office.

Calendar planning

What if there’s no shower at work?

This is probably every runner’s biggest reason for not hitting the road during work hours. If you can’t get to a shower, prepare ahead of time.

Use baby wipes to freshen up, or use the sink with a hand towel to get clean. Some quality deodorant will help too. Dry shampoo can really help to avoid damp frizz for those with longer hair.

Warm up at your desk

If you don’t have a lot of time, get used to warming up at your desk.

Stretch your arms out and roll your ankles while you’re sitting. Walk briskly between desks or the bathroom, and take the stairs instead of the elevator.

How do I get the most out of a short session?

Plan your run wisely. Do a quick but solid warm up. Take the first 10 minutes or so slowly, as you might not have stretched as much as usual. Work in some interval training to get the most out of your limited time. Try running at full speed for 5 minutes then backing off for 5 minutes to recover before ramping up again. Alternate this for as long as you can.

Don't forget to use the Enertor insoles to make sure you don't get injured while out on your run.

Time is of the essence

You should be able to change into your running gear pretty quickly. Get straight out of the door and get moving. It might take you a bit longer to perfect your clean up routine, so allow more time for this on your first few runs.
