Best spring marathons 2018

2018-03-30

Are you looking for the best Spring marathons to run? There are plenty of excellent races coming up on the Spring calendar. Look across the Channel to find some of the best Spring marathons in Europe.

Hamburg Marathon, Germany, 29 April 2018

This is a lively marathon that’s compared to its larger cousin in Berlin in terms of quality and also elevation. The Hamburg course is almost completely flat and takes in the sight of the beautiful Aussenalster Lake.

Copenhagen Marathon, Denmark, 13 May 2018

Copenhagen is a beautiful city and the marathon gives you plenty of chances to soak it in. Another flat course, the marathon is a great one to run and offers many post-race indulgences like famous Danish pastries.

Ibiza Marathon, Balearic Islands, 8 April 2018

If you’re keen for a party head to Ibiza for a challenging and worthy marathon. There are hills to climb but the views of the ocean are spectacular. Be surprised by castles and rural areas which belie the island’s party reputation. Of course, the after-party is one to stick around for.

Volkswagen Prague Marathon, Czech Republic, 7 May 2018

Europe has some of the flattest marathon courses and this is no exception. The local support for runners is generous as you head through the Old Town and cross the Vlatava River. Enjoy a cool beer or two after you cross the finish line.

Madrid Rock n’ Roll Marathon, Spain, 22 April 2018

This is a race like no other. Join 15 000 competitors along a stimulating route. There are a lot of hills to face but the constant live entertainment provides good motivation to power through. It might seem like a lark but the Madrid Rock n’ Roll Marathon is an IAAF Gold Label certified race, so you are in for a quality race experience.

    Excellent for reducing knee pain
I have arthritic knees which inhibits walking and standing activities. my Enertor innersoles help reduce the pain by reducing the impact and stabilising the foot plant.

wont fit in spikes, but great for training shoes
These are too thick to fit in track spikes, but they feel great in my training flats and regular running shoes. They even brought back to life, some shoes that I thought were worn out.

Insoles put pep in your step.
I have never run with any type of insert in my shoes, but that being said I did feel like these made a difference. The pair of shoes I used them in had quite a few miles on them, but I can safely say that the inserts made the shoes feel springier, peppier, and overall “newer” feeling. They still feel this way after several weeks of use and I’m looking forward to being able to try them out on a timed run. Overall, with my limited experience I would still recommend them to someone who is looking to experiment with adding an insert into their existing running shoes.

8 out of 10 for Enertor
8 out of 10 for Enertor. 4 years ago I had to stop teaching the exercise classes I have loved doing for years. I stepped out of bed and couldn’t walk because of the excruciating pain in the bottom of both feet. I had caught the dreaded plantar fasciitis. So started endless rounds of different therapies – physiotherapy, strapping, bespoke designed orthotics , acupuncture, shock therapy, massage, osteopath and of course the internet. I didn’t realize there were so many experts in the world of foot pain! I had my own Pilates business teaching the over 50s; Zumba and dance were included. All teaching had to stop because I couldn’t use my feet. Then I saw this fancy box of insoles talking about new technology, and a completely new material which reduces shockwaves through the foot, so decided to try them. After some effort trying to trim them to fit they seem to be doing the trick. No pain in the heels even after one whole day of wearing. I shall be recommending them to my clients.

I use them in my hiking boots
I am not a runner but have my insoles in my leather hiking boots and they are fabulous. Comfortable, great for walking and running when I am out with my dog. Would recommend them.

    Total Knee Replacement.
Had a replacement knee July 15 and have started to get back into sporting action, playing Badminton and touch rugby. These insoles most definitely eased the pressure on both knees cushioning the impact to the point of being very comfortable. Great absorption qualities for an old sportsman like me.

    Excellent impact protection
As a reviewer has mentioned below – these won’t fit in lower profile shoes or spikes, however in day to day running shoes, they’re great. I’ve started using them whilst coming back from tendonitis and while they make no medical claims, they’re definitely helping with impact absorbency and comfort. Would be 5 stars if I could fit them in every pair I own!

    Initial thoughts
I have had the enertor in my shoes for three days of the Christmas season. Lots of hours on my feet but have not texted them in my hiking boots carrying a ~35 lb pack for 4, 6 or more hours. That I will do in the next week or so and provide another review. I have been a Sole user for the past three years and they have served me wonderfully well on many backpacking trips in the Pacific Northwest, The Rockies and trekking in Bhutan (25 days on the Snowman Trek), Tibet (The World’s Highest Trek to Camp lll on Mt. Everest), Bolivia, Pakistan (16 days into K2 base camp) and many more. I chose to try the enertor based reviews, including by Michael Lanza of the Big Outside. Thus far they have been great. Very comfortable and no tired feet after three 8-10 hour days chasing grandchildren and doing festive activities.
